My beloved grandfather, the late Cecil Roberts said to me, “if you’re going to do it, take your time and do it right”.  I was around four years old and struggling with a toy in the back yard.  His words struck home and on some level I understood that what he had said was important.

I feel very fortunate to have known my great grandparents, grandparents and lots of old aunties and uncles.  They doled out little pearls of wisdom such as, “don’t judge a man by his car”, “money comes and goes but family and friends are forever”, “treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of their circumstances”.

The video below is by Andrew Zuckerman creator of the Wisdom Project.  He was inspired by a quote from Desmond Tutu who said,  “the greatest gift one generation can give to another is the wisdom gained from experience”.  Zuckerman traveled the globe for a year creating a record of what wisdom means to a multicultural group of people who have made their mark on the world.

I had the privilege of meeting Archbishop Tutu, aka The Arch.  Being in his presence changed my life.  That’s why I left a successful career in television production and now run Healthy Gourmet Gifts, creating gift baskets for thoughtful giving.

This video features some pretty famous people, but please don’t let that detract from what they have to say.  I hope you enjoy the video.
